J.C. Poutsma

Dr. J.C. Poutsma is a Professor of Chemistry and Principal Investigator of the Ionlab. He received his B.S at Furman University, where he did undergraduate research with Tony Arrington on reactions of dimethylsilylene with amines in low-temperature matrices. He received his Ph.D. under the direction of Bob Squires, where he studied carbene thermochemistry and constructed a flowing afterglow – QOQ guided-ion beam instrument. J.C. did his post-doc under the direction of Dick Zare, where he did experiments on state-selected ion-molecule reactions. He started at William and Mary as an Assistant Professor in 1999, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2005, and to full professor in 2010.
